NEW TEAM, STILL A WINNER; DOUG HOFFMAN
BAGS CAREER 106TH MODIFIED VICTORY AT EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT
EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Doug Hoffman of Allentown, Pa. may have swapped driver's seats after winning the title in 2001. But that hasn't changed his winning ways
as he charged to victory Friday night at the East Windsor Speedway in the 25-lap
main event f or Big Block and Small Block Modified stock cars. It was Hoffman's 106th win at the half-mile clay oval and marked the 15th different season in
which he has grabbed a checker flag. The victory came at the wheel of the Lincoln Auto Body No. 5.
Wade Hendrickson of Lawrenceville was the leader at the outset, while Hoffman charged to the front from his tenth starting spot. Hoffman arrived in second by
the time five laps were completed and then sized up Hendrickson for three laps before racing into the lead on the backstretch.
Hoffman really had nothing to fear from that point on, but the race for position
behind him was a good one with Stockton's Ryan Kerr nailing down second at the end. Fred Dmuchowski of Neshanic Station was third, with Browns Mills' Mike
McAleer, fourth and Ryan Godown of Ringoes, fifth. Troubles plagued some of the top guns as Frenchtown's Billy Pauch was 14th, Jimmy Horton was 17th and Kenny
Brightbill was 20th.
Brian Godown of Ringoes was in the right place all the through the caution plagued 20-lapper for the Sportsman racers as he took his first win of the young
season. Mike Lyons of Hightstown came on to challenge at the finish, with Darrel
Delnaro of Belle Mead, Richie Pratt, Jr. of Hurffville and Stan Janiszewski of Trenton wrapping up the top five.
Jackson's Rob Ormsbee made it two-for-two in Street Stock main event action Friday night. Ormsbee took the lead early when defending champ Al Cheney of
Cranbury left the spot with a flat tire and was never headed. Weldon Collier of Cream Ridge was second, while Jackson's Keith Flores, Kim Cooke of Hamilton and
Kenny Hammond of Old Bridge were third through fifth.
Jeff Taylor became the second Limited Sprint Car winner at East Windsor. Finishing a close second was a fast closing Jason Schultz, with opening night
winner Dwayne Lawlor, third, Brian Powell, fourth and Bill Miller, fifth in this
all-new division.
Friday night racing continues weekly at the East Windsor Speedway with the first
green flag waving at 7:30 p.m. This Friday evening, May 10, the Modifieds battle
in a 25-lapper, with the Sportsman cars racing 20-laps and the Street Stocks competing in a 15-lapper. The Limited Sprint Cars will also return and the
vintage racecars of the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will also be on hand.
